I have just moved from Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, after almost six years there and am now suspended somewhere between my native Switzerland and Southern Germany. A political scientist, I make my living analyzing, writing, and editing. This includes (i) my dissertation, on "external state-building," which I'm writing in the political science department of the New School for Social Research; (ii) the Southeast Europe section at Transitions Online, the leading news magazine covering Central and Eastern Europe, the Balkans, and the former Soviet Union,; and (iii) lots of work for clients. In this last category, I help organizations design and conceptualize their projects and present them to donors. Oh, and there's (iv) -- a book I'm editing on what Dayton and all that means for the wider world, to be published in 2006, and a book I'm co-authoring on "engineered ethnic unmixing" in twentieth-century Europe.
